Matthew’s Pizza in Baltimore

Since 1943, Matthew’s Pizza has been serving the best pizza in Baltimore. Located on Eastern Avenue in Highlandtown, this restaurant has traditionally been the favored lunch spot for blue-collar workers living in the area, as well as businessmen from downtown. The pizza is neither New York-style or Chicago, the crust is soft and golden, and deep enough to hold a mixture of toppings and chopped tomatoes. The walls are covered in murals painting a Tuscan countryside, while a painting of the original propreitor sits staring in the back near the counter. This place is thoroughly old-school, with the waitresses calling you “hun”, while to-go and unfinished pizzas are wrapped in white butcher paper. It does not hide the fact that this restaurant is frequently awarded with many accolades and awards from the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Magazine, and the City Paper plastered on top of the murals of Tuscany.
